We provide a variety of services to patients including, but not limited to, the following:

Physicals

Gateway Family MedicineMost insurances allow for one physical or well check per year (please check your individual insurance plan for coverage). Adult physicals include a comprehensive medical exam, review of medications, and age-appropriate lab work (for example: blood counts, liver and kidney function, thyroid function, cholesterol panel, prostate specific antigen, and urinalysis). For Medicare patients we also do the “Welcome to Medicare” and “Annual Wellness Visits” (AWV) with all required components.

We offer well child exams which include a comprehensive physical exam, review of growth charts, and review of immunization records and administration of vaccinations as appropriate. We also offer cash pay sports physicals for our student athlete patients - we ask that you bring the school forms with to the appointment with your part of the form completed ahead of time. If any additional testing that is required other than the normal physical exam by the doctor, such as an EKG, shots, urine or hearing test etc. will be an additional charge on top of the sports physical fee.

We also offer well woman exams and follow ACOG (American Congress of Gynecology) guidelines with regard to pap smears and mammograms. Mammogram orders are generally written at the time of the exam. We also refer patients for bone density testing, if needed. If the well woman exam is done as part of a comprehensive physical, appropriate lab work will also be ordered.

Diabetes Management

More and more patients are diagnosed with diabetes each year.  Most people who have diabetes don't feel sick in the earlier stages of the disease.  Unmanaged, diabetes can contribute to other serious heath problems such as heart disease, kidney failure, vision problems, and neuropathies that affect the feet and hands.   As part of annual physical exams, we routinely screen for signs of diabetes and if diagnosed will recommend appropriate lifestyle changes and prescription medications to help get your blood sugar under control.  If you are already diabetic, we will help you manage your disease and/or work with you to find a specialist (endocrinologist) to help you get your diabetes under control.

Immunizations

Of the many advances in medicine, the development of vaccinations against various illnesses has contributed to reducing the spread of many life-threatening and debilitating infectious diseases. At Gateway Family Medicine we recommend that families follow the CDC vaccination guidelines for children and adults. We realize that there are varying public opinions regarding vaccinations and we will not deny care to patients and families that choose not to follow the CDC guidelines. You may be asked to sign a waiver if you prefer not to have your family members vaccinated.

Chronic & Acute Illnesses

The providers at Gateway Family Medicine take care of patients who are dealing with a variety of chronic health conditions including hypertension (high blood pressure), elevated cholesterol levels, diabetes, arthritis, and mental health issues like depression.  We look at past medical history, family history, and past treatments and work with you to determine a treatment course that is individualized and appropriate for you in order to meet your health care goals.

Minor Procedures

We do some minor procedures such as: stitches, freezing or removing warts, skin tag and cyst removals; as well as skin biopsies, and ingrown  toenails.  These is not all inclusive but just some of the more common minor procedures we do in our office.  You may need to be seen for a regular office visit to have a provider determine if a procedure is needed; if a procedure is warranted and we can do it in our office we'll then schedule you for a follow up appointment to get it taken care of.  Depending on the procedure, severity, and location, we may not have the adequate tools to perform the procedure and then we would refer you out.

 Wellness Program/Weight Loss

Gateway Family MedicineWe are excited to offer our patients the FirstLine Therapy Wellness Program, which is designed to attack the underlying causes of many common health problems such as diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and obesity.  This program is doctor supervised and uses an easy to follow plan working with a certified Life Style Educator.  Our Life Style Educator works with each patient to individualize the program to suit their needs and desires, while tracking progress and providing support, thus ensuring success.  If you would like to see better lab results, possibly eliminating some of your medications, get rid of excess fat, or just feel better, ask the doctor if this program is right for you.  It is a cost-effective program that is covered by most insurances, individual copays and deductibles still apply.

Sonora Quest Laboratories/Lab Corp

We provide on-site laboratory services and have a Sonora Quest Phlebotomist in our clinic for our patients. Even though our phlebotomist works for Sonora Quest, labs may also be drawn and sent to Lab Corp. Patients have found this to be quite convenient and have appreciated not having to travel to a lab center for blood and urine collections. Labs ordered during an office visit may be done at the time of the visit or patients can return on another day to complete lab work that was previously ordered by one of our providers. The lab is open M, Tues, Th, Fri from 8am-5pm, closed between 12-1pm for lunch.  Wednesday lab hours are from 8-11:40 am. We can NOT do lab work for other doctor's offices at our facility but we can give you directions to another lab site nearby to get it done. Our office will send you a message through our patient portal or will call you when the lab results are received. If your labs are ABNORMAL, you will need to schedule a follow up appointment with a physician to review the results and determine the appropriate course of actions. We suggest anyone get lab work done -- to drink plenty of plain water before they come in (even fasting patients); this makes it easier to get a good blood draw.
